Asset Map Coming Soon!
Digital GIS mapping of local assets can increase opportunities for collaboration and facilitate access to local resources. The Alliance partnered with the Greenbrier County 911 center to contribute content to county maps that have been complied. An Alliance Asset Mapping Taskforce collected and organized information that is useful to help guide local residents to healthy activities in their community. Three focus areas have been mapped: 1) Food Assets; 2) Physical Activity Assets; and 3) Cultural Resources.
Food assets information includes distribution schedules and contact information for: Food pantries, senior meal sites, community gardens, farmers markets, surplus food distribution, grocery stores, SNAP coupon, WIC program, preservation and cooking classes, nutrition resources, etc.
Physical Activity assets are opportunities within each community for getting active. Picnic pavilions, parks, playgrounds, ball fields, walking trails, bike routes, exercise classes, nature hikes, etc. were inventoried locally and plotted on GIS maps of the county.
Cultural Resources include community centers and little free libraries.
We hope this information is a useful reference for local residents, Ambassadors, and clinical and social service workers to encourage engagement in healthy behaviors. Check out the map here (with link).
